Wow!!

Has H never seen a sighted person with a dog?

Heck no. He's seen plenty. I think that he thinks that if he were blind - getting a dog would be ipso facto whereas as it is now - getting a dog is up to Mom.
I didn't want to get into a big discussion with him about it but if I had I could have brought up how being blind would interfere with his other plan for when he grows up - which is to be a bat boy (for a baseball team, not as a superhero sidekick).

It's cute that he thought of the idea... I'm sure he'll catch on to the difficulties of being blind, though.

It was such a random comment I let it pass w/o my usual lecture.
He's still not getting a dog - no matter how blind he wants to grow up to be.
We were at a movie event sponsored by NASA and a little boy in the audience said he wanted to be an astronaut because when astronauts return from space there's a parade and people throw candy. The presenter clarified by saying, "so you want to be an astronaut for the candy?"
